Best Ultrabooks for 2015
Best Ultrabooks for 2015
If youre looking for the thinnest and lightest PC laptops on the market, youll often find them labeled as Ultrabooks. A brainchild of Intel, the Ultrabook specification means that a notebook has long battery life and svelte chassis. The category is very broad and includes many models at different prices and form factors, including hybrids that double as tablets for the ultimate in versatility. Youll also find high-end machines with super-sharp, quad HD screens and speedy SSDs. Heres our list of the Top Ultrabooks today.
Dell XPS 13
Dell created a lot of hype at the CES 2015 with the launch of XPS 13. The main attraction of the device is the design. Dell has managed to squeeze a 13-inch screen into a chassis the size of an 11-inch notebook by using the worlds thinnest bezel. This consumer Ultrabook has an optional WQHD touch screen display or a standard full HD panel along with an SSD and the latest Intel Broadwell processor. To add to these high end features, there is also 15 hours of battery life.
The laptop starts at $799 (for the base version).
Lenovo LaVie Z
At 1.73-pounds, Lenovos upcoming LaVie Z is the lightest 13-inch laptop ever, but doesnt skimp on specs. This $1,299 laptop sports an Intel 5th Generation Core i5 or Core i7 CPU, a full HD screen and a speedy SSD. Theres also a folding convertible model of the Lavie Z that will cost $1,499 and weigh a slightly-higher, 2.04 pounds. Both models are set to lighten your wallet in May.
Acer Aspire S7 and R13
Acer announced their popular Aspire S7 and the convertible Aspire R13 laptops will be upgraded to Broadwell hardware as well, but without any known changes to their cases and features. Dont expect major performance increase, but expect both to last up to 10 hours on a single charge, which is a 1-2 hours bump from the 2014 versions.
Both should be available in stores later this month, with the Aspire S7 starting at $1200 and the R13 and $800, but each will be available in several configurations, with either FHD and WQHD screen, Core i5/i7 5th gen processors, 4/8 GB of RAM and various storage solutions (from what we know the S7 is still going to support up to 256 GB Raid 0 configs, while the R13 can get up to 1 TB Raid 0 storage).
HP EliteBook Folio 1020
HPs new EliteBook Folio 1020 packs a ton of goodies for business users into a supersleek package. In fact, at just 0.62 inches thick and 2.68 lbs., its thinner and lighter than both Dells XPS 13 and Apples MacBook Air. People who want to work on the Folio 1020 will appreciate its fingerprint reader, which ensures that only you will be able to access your business files. It also comes with a sharp 12.5-inch quad-HD display and a docking port, so you can easily use a bigger monitor, as well as accessories like a mouse and external hard drive, when you arrive at the office. We also like the inclusion of the Synaptics ForcePad, a touchpad that uses pressure to register clicks more reliably.
Toshiba Z20t Ultrabook
Packing Intels new Core M processor, Toshibas latest hybrid ditches the fans and can run for a whopping 17 hours. That battery life claim is in the laptop mode, but you can pull the 12.5-inch screen off for a true tablet experience. Unlike many other thin ultrabooks, Toshiba has kitted the Z20t out with a whole load of ports like ethernet, full HDMI, microSD and a bevy of USB ports, which is always a nice touch. Specs wise, the top end model packs 8GB RAM, a 256GB SSD, AC wireless and a 5MP snapper.
Apple MacBook Air 13-inch
The MacBook Air is one of the best ultrabooks youll ever buy, and probably the one that every other manufacturer wants to best with their respective ultrabook offerings. With a 13-inch screen, Core i5 chip, 4GB RAM, and a powerful 128GB SSD, this 1.5 kg industrial design wonder claims to churn out 12 hours of battery life on a single charge. And continues to up the bar for others to beat. If you have the money for it, this is simply a great ultrabook to have.
Samsung Ativ Book 9 Plus
The ATIV Book 9 Plus features a 13.3-inch Quad HD+ (32001800) high-resolution LED touch screen display that delivers vivid images, sharp text, and true-to-life colors. SuperBright technology provides 350 nits of brightness, allowing you to view pictures, videos, websites, and more in exceptional color and clarity.
This computer comes with Samsungs SideSync software, which automatically syncs files with your smartphone when you dock it and allows you to copy and paste files from the phone to the computer or vice versa.
The ATIV Book 9 Plus 4th generation Intel Core i5 processor provides faster and better performance. The i5 delivers CPU processing 10 to 15 percent more efficient than typical computer processors, along with media processing and 3D rendering thats two times faster. In addition, the ATIV Book 9 Plus can boot up in as little as 5.9 seconds. It offers 4 GB of system memory and 128 GB of SSD storage.
Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro
Though its hard to say why Lenovo named this ultrabook Yoga it may have something to do with just how flexible it is. The laptops screen can easily be opened and twisted to 180 degrees, providing you with a tablet like experience, with a touch screen too. This feature is especially handy for those who like watching shows or movies on their computer, but dont want to have to hold it the entire time. Of course, at just 3.1 pounds, this isnt exactly a very heavy laptop, if you did have to hold it for a prolonged period of time.
Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi
The Transformer Book Chi tablet is one of the slimmest tablets available. The Chi tablet comes with full sized keyboard making it an ultimate productivity tablet/ laptop. The T300 comes in 12.5 inch display which is offered in two resolutions- WQHD and the Full HD. It comes with 4GB/8GB RAM with 128GB SSD and 8 hours of battery life.
HP Spectre 13T-3000
Given what this model provides, there arent many ultrabooks that can compare with the HP Spectre 13T-300s price. Although the price is small, though, youll still get a good-sized screen. Its 13.3 inches screen size and HP decked this model out so that the display is great, not just for touch screens, but also for watching videos. Still, the Spectre 13T-3000 only weighs 4.39 pounds, making it a very easy laptop to take on the go with you. Best of all, easily detach the screen at will and you now have an awesome tablet to take with you on the go.
